Having a child will change your life in many ways. There’s a lot more laws one must adhere to once becoming a parent. One of those is the requirement of child safety seats. Now, children are messy little creatures. They leave a trail of crumbs and sticky fingerprints wherever they go. Leather seats are preferred when it comes to shuffling said creatures around. They can easily be vacuumed, and wiped clean (unlike cloth). Many parents are shocked in horror the first time they remove their childs safety seat for a thorough disinfecting. Oh my god! Look at the seat (I knew I should of worn a condom)! This is what happens when you anchor down a child seat for 2 years.

Fear not fortunate childless enthusiasts. There’s an easy remedy for this, I wish I’d learned sooner. First place a terry cloth towel over the leather. Next, (when your wife has her back turned), get her clothes iron, take it out to the garage, and turn it to it’s highest setting. Iron the seat with the terry cloth towel as a buffer, very slowly. The towel insures you won’t damage the leather. With some patience you can restore those seats to their former glory. Here’s how they came out after 10 minutes of heat.

This can also be accomplished with a heat gun, but there’s risk of damaging the leather if you get it too hot.

A garment steamer works very well too.

I have my own clothes iron thank you very much.

Not for clothes, but for laminating wood edging.

Our ML had one for 10 years. The rear seat now? Not a single scratch.

Top tip: familiarize yourself on how it works beforehand. You got a short window of opportunity before she realizes it’s missing. Last thing you want to hear is “what are you doing? Is that one of your CAR rags? Don’t you bring that back in the house, and YOU better not comeback thru the door in unless you’re holding a new iron".

That's a neat trick, the back of my 325iT bears those scars so I'll have to commandeer the iron sometime.
